Gourmet cookies baked to order and delivered fresh, from a recipe box that started with an Iowa State Fair win.
Every bakery has a story, and Jay's has a good one. It started with a family that baked cookies together on rainy afternoons, decades of tinkering with recipes, and a win in a cookie contest at the Iowa State Fair. Encouraged to share them, the family opened Jay's Cookies in Ankeny in 2013. Today it's a licensed commercial kitchen that bakes to order and ships cookies across the country.
How it works
There's no storefront to stop into. Jay's bakes your cookies to order and delivers them fresh around the Des Moines metro, or packages them and ships them anywhere. That makes it a go-to for gifts: a thank-you for a client, a holiday box for the team, or a treat for the new neighbors.
The cookies
The lineup is classic with a few twists. The Toasted Coconut Cream was inspired by a coconut cake the family bakes every Easter for the nurses working the holiday. The Cherry Almond started as a limited holiday cookie topped with a candied cherry and got so popular it stayed. The Caramel Toffee combines toffee, butterscotch, and dark chocolate, a nod to a family favorite, Scotcheroos. The Peanut Butter Melt Away is a soft peanut butter cookie topped with a chocolate star. And the Irish Coffee Cookie folds in Baileys and Jameson for a soft, chewy, coffee-forward bite.
For parties and gifts
Variety platters come in five or seven dozen on a covered tray, ready for a meeting or a party (local delivery only). For weddings, showers, and graduations, Jay's can match the chip colors to your event, customize the packaging, and print special labels. Businesses can hand over a mailing list and let Jay's take care of the rest, branded inserts included.
There's also the Cookie Club, which delivers a dozen of the featured cookie to your door every month. Sign up for yourself or give it as a gift that keeps showing up all year.
Good to know
Order by phone or email. Jay's closes for the month of January, so get your holiday orders in early. If you're sending cookies out of state, they're baked and packaged the same day and shipped priority, so they still arrive fresh.
